Mel B stars in Virgin Media ad
4th Sept 2008
Virgin Media has signed up former
Spice Girl Melanie Brown to star in an animated cinema
advert to promote its movies-on-demand service.
The double-entendre-laden ad, which launches on
September 12, features the singer in her trademark
leopard print catsuit as she goes for a consultation
with a plastic surgeon - and ends up buying a Virgin
Media movie package.
At the end, her German plastic surgeon is seen ripping
off a mask to reveal he is the Virgin founder, Sir
Richard Branson.
The commercial, called Melony Brown, was created by US
company So! Animation.
Virgin Media's new commercial was written by Chris
Hodgkiss and Pip Bishop at ad agency Rainey Kelly
Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, the same team behind Marks &
Spencer's recent advertising.
The ad carries on Virgin Media's theme of using famous
singers in their advertising and follows a previous
animated cinema spot starring Simply Red frontman Mick
Hucknall, which launched in June.

Brown said: "I'm
over the moon with my animated alter ego and the
advert really made me giggle! It's definitely
fresh and original and I'm going to make sure
all my friends and family go to the cinema to
see it."
Ashley Stockwell, the Virgin Media acting
managing director of brand and marketing, added:
"Following the success of the Mick Hucknall ad,
we couldn't wait to release our next ad and
we're thrilled to have such a fun-loving and
larger-than-life personality as Mel B on board.
"After all these years in the limelight, Mel is
still a favourite with the British public and
was the perfect choice for the ad, as she was
happy to have a real laugh with us." |
